Here is a Healthy Debate?
By Ronald Curtis Jr
Are the choices we make based on our own thinking, or the programming we have been subjected to? For example, television, radio, newspapers, etc. Let us think about this for just a moment. My friend and I started to debate about "wrong choices" and "addictions" this morning. My view was that addictions are the result of wrong/bad choices. His view was that choices were the results of your programming. So what do you think? Is it not your choice to watch television? Is it not your choice to drink alcohol and use drugs? He made a point that the television programs you to think it is ok, and acceptable, to drink and socialize with friends. That one drink might be the start of an addiction, and the choice to drink was from the programming he was getting from watching TV. If that is the case, then it was your choice to watch the television, right? Here is where it started to get even deeper. What if your parents were the ones whom put you in front of the TV at a young age? You grew up with that programming, by time you were old enough to make choices, your choices have been majorly influenced by the television? I agree, the media on television is designed to sell, sell, sell, and accept a life of mediocrity and fun. Our children are limited to one hour of television per day, and we select the content. We are not talking cable, they only watch movies that we pre-screen first. So does that mean he was right and I was wrong? Are the choices that some people are making these days which lead to addictions, violence, adultery, and so on, the results of wrong media? Is it possible that some people are making wrong choices because what they think is polluted by the garbage they are watching on television? If that is the case, then let us ask another question. What the heck are we going to do about it? Hollywood would debate this and just say it is entertainment. People know movies are not real. Yet anyone who teaches anything about Subconscious programming would tell you that your Subconscious mind does not know the difference between real or fake. This is why you cry when you watch a sad movie, or scream at a scary movie and have nightmares. I remember letting our daughter stay the night at a friends house. When she came home the next day she told us that they watched "Childs Play" and she was really bothered by the movie. I was outraged and we spoke to the mom who was supervising the children. She started crying because she realized we were very upset. Then she said, "It was just a movie. They know that dolls can't come to life and kill people. I didn't think there was anything wrong?" If these movies didn't impact the way we think, then why would we "feel" as if the movie is real while we are being "entertained?" Choices have consequences, the real debate here is, "Are we being programmed negatively?" and, if so, "what are we going to do about it?" God bless! Ron |
